Radio Lollipop are one of 8 charities supported by “The Great North Children’s Hospital Appeal”, aiming to raise one million pounds for the new children’s hospital due to open in Newcastle.
This is a hospital designed to look as little like a hospital as possible. Its a nurturing environment, a place where children and their parents can feel more at ease, however long their stay. Staffed by world-class doctors and nursing staff using the very latest equipment and medical techniques, the new childrens hospital will care for young people with a huge variety of conditions.
However, all of our patients will definitely have one thing in common. Being in hospital is not top of their list of things to do! Thats why the hospital includes a 50-seat cinema that will screen the very latest films, while the designers of the new penthouse area at the childrens hospital should have a good idea of what teenagers want – theyre teenagers themselves. And because the hospital knows that kids of all ages need their own space, three out of four of the hospitals 245 beds will be in private rooms. While en suite bathrooms and sleeping area for parents in their childs bedroom are all part of a deliberate effort to create more privacy and improve conditions for both patients and their families.
The hospital will also have a state-of-the-art Radio Lollipop studio, broadcasting to the wards and inviting children to be part of the show.
We would like to announce in advance, a special fundraising dinner for the GNCH Appeal, with an after-dinner speech by Tricia Stewart, the originator and driving force behind the “Alternative WI Calendar”. The event will also include a charity auction presided over by Mr Ernie Coe, the well-known Northumbrian raconteur.
