The Easter Bunnies have arrived! Radio Lollipop Bristol Easter Giveaway!

It’s that time of year again when the volunteers at Radio Lollipop Bristol put on their bunny ears and become the Easter Bunny’s Helpers!

This year the Easter Giveaway was held on Wednesday 27th March 2013 at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.  The event was filled with activities, giveaways, music and Easter themed fun.

Our volunteers wore Easter Bunny ears as they visited the wards, handing out Kermit the Frog backpacks, sweets, colouring activities and word searches. For the children in A&E our volunteers made special activity Easter packs.

The Kermit the Frog backpacks were donated by Catherine Marsh, Wednesday Night volunteer, who received them from a colleague at work. She said, “A colleague at work whose wife works for a charity said she had got inundated with these Kermit the Frog backpacks, and I mean thousands, so he knew that I volunteered for Radio Lollipop and he thought it would be a nice idea to give us some of these back packs”.

Upon arrival to the wards the parents, nurses and patients were very excited to see us!

During the Easter giveaway we came across Lucy, 4, who greeted us with a massive smile. As our volunteers walked on to the wards, Lucy was one of the first to find out what all the fuss was about.

Later in the evening we caught up with Lucy. Her parents said, “She was just so excited to see the Easter Bunny. She really liked the Kermit the Frog backpack and when she received it she was jumping up and down.” We also found that her sister Chloe, 8 was very happy to get a Kermit the Frog backpack.

Back in the playroom we had lots going on- the Bristol Radio Lollipop volunteers got stuck in to Easter arts and crafts activities.

Throughout the evening an Easter radio show was put on by DJ Ellie ‘Spinellie’ Harris, which was assisted by Bristol Lolliboss Kate Harris and Thursday night Volunteer Tom Lonsdale.

DJ Spinellie said, “It’s been an excellent show, filled with Easter themed topics such as Easter facts, jokes and trivia.”

Tom Lonsdale said the night had been “awesome” and there had been two main highlights of the night which were; “Going around giving out the Kermits, there were a lot of happy faces with that and then getting involved with Radio Lollipop [on air]– even though one of my jokes did flop a bit!”

The night was definitely a success!

The Radio Lollipop Bristol team would just like to say a massive thank-you to Catherine Marsh and her colleagues for donating the Kermit the Frog backpacks to us and to all the volunteers who helped out at the Easter Giveaway event!
