Glasgow’s lord provost’s procession

Glasgow’s Volunteer Team took to the streets in July for the Lord Provost’s Procession. With help from What Everyone Wants, the float had everything from giant inflatable bananas to GIANT
microphones and headphones. They were one of
the few organisations who got a commendation
from the city’s Lord Provost.

Also, volunteers took part in the Rotary Club of
Glasgow’s ‘Charifun’ day in the city’s Kelvingrove
Park. Radio Lollipop provided the majority of the
entertainment, with presenters broadcasting from
many strange places including bouncy castles and
children’s rides. With frantic selling of stock and face painting, a great time – as usual – was had by all.

Fundraiser Avril Nicolson masterminded a very
successful raffle over the summer. Facing major
problems like a huge delay in receiving a gaming
license from the city council, it looked like the raffle might have been a flop, but Avril’s tremendous efforts meant that it was a huge success. With big prizes such as tickets to sell-out Robbie Williams and Tom Jones concerts, the raffle raised in excess of £2000.

Edinburgh cavalcade

Each year Edinburgh takes part in the Edinburgh
Festival Cavalcade procession through the streets of the city. The Cavalcade marks the start of the world famous Edinburgh Festival and is watched by many thousands of people from all over the globe.

Although there are prizes for the various categories, most participants take part for fun. This year, Lollipop’s entry was themed Planet
Lollipop, with the motto join our world of fun! The
float depicted a planet with a Lollipop ship landed
on it, with volunteers dressed as aliens and space
creatures. Play activities and drawing competitions
were also tied into the event. It was a great day,
and as usual the sun was shining! We even got a
mention on BBC TV!
