Sweet stories in the pop

‘Sweet Stories in the Pop’ is a storytelling project by storytellers Daryll Bellingham and Alex

McCallum who told and created stories in the Radio Lollipop Studio and the children’s wards of the Mater South Brisbane Hospital with children and the ‘Thrilling Thursday Team’ of volunteers during November 2001.

The project has been made possible by an International Year of the Volunteer Grant to the Queensland Storytelling Guild.

The aims of the project are to:
– entertain patients, family and volunteers,
– to support and assist volunteers
– to encourage and support patients to create and tell their own stories, and
– to explore and demonstrate the value of storytelling in the hospital setting.

Entertainment software charity

Entertainment Software Charity has been
established by major companies in the computer
games field and has adopted Radio Lollipop as
an excellent focal point for their support. ESC’s
Chief Executive Brynn Gilmore has visited various
Radio Lollipops and has devised a mobile games
trolley. These units have Sony Play-stations with
screens, triggers and games software. The aim
is that two children can compete against each
other, sharing the equipment.
Up to twenty ‘games trolleys’ will be distributed to
each Radio Lollipop in the UK – providing yet
another means of providing fun and play for
children in hospital.
If you have ideas on how to help Radio Lollipop
– please let us know.
