Radio lollipop brisbane – induction day

Radio Lollipop Brisbane recently held their Induction Day with eight new volunteers soon to begin brightening the lives of our young children at the Mater Children’s and Logan Hospitals.

At induction our volunteers are tasked with making a craft item. The theme for this inductiion was “Space”. The volunteers are provided with typical craft items similar to what they would normally take up on the wards and they are encourgared to make something. As you can see we have some very talented new volunteers coming on the wards soon. Well done team.

Radio lollipop goes tropical…

Once again Radio Lollipop Edinburgh took to the streets of Scotland’s Capital in the Festival Cavalcade.

The Edinburgh team adopted a Tropical Rainforest theme this year with our open top bus being transformed into a rainforest, compete with it’s own waterfall.

With the float being a tropical rainforest the crowds watching also got a bit wet – in the form of our now infamous water pistols!

Radio Lollipop presenters David Sweeney and Peter Dick got the crowds dancing to the ‘YMCA’ and ‘Cotton Eye Joe’ while the rest of the Volunteer team showed them how it was done from the top of the bus.

For the past 18 years Radio Lollipop Edinburgh have taken part in this annual event which attracts crowds in excess of 200,000 every year. Radio Lollipop Edinburgh also holds the accolade of being the first float to use music – something which almost every float uses today.

The Cavalcade was a great success offering all those who took part the chance to dress up and have fun whilst helping to raise the profile and role of Radio Lollipop Edinburgh to a huge audience.

Once again the float would not have been possible without the help and support from Kenny and everyone at Lothian Buses. Special thanks also goes to our driver Brian. He’d not driven a crowd like us around Edinburgh before!!

Design a car with knockhill and win…

Radio Lollipop Edinburgh has teamed up with Knockhill Racing Circuit, Scotland’s National Motorsport Centre to give away a family pass & a car parking pass for the British Touring Car Championship on 3rd September 2006.

Between 2 August and 23 August 2006 the children of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh are being asked to design a racing car, showing what it looks like, how many doors it has, what colour it is and so on.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday 23 August when our special judge from Knockhill Racing Circuit will choose the best car.

We can’t promise that the winning car will be driven at the British Touring car championship on 3 September but we can promise that the winner will have a fantastic day out at Knockhill.

Name the bear….

Over the summer Radio Lolliopop Edinburgh have been running a ‘name the bear’ competition at all of our Roadshows.

Visitors to the roadshow have had the chance to win our giant 6 foot bear simply by guessing its name.

Because we are nice here in Edinburgh we even gave out a clue – our bear was named after a famous musician! We also gave our loads of clues during the roadshow and even played songs by the artist who our giant bear was named after!

We had hundreds of entry’s and a wide a varied selection of guesses.

Some of the gueeses we received were:
Robbie
Elvis
Fish
Travis
Elton
Rudi Scachel (ex Hearts footballer)
Gummie (as in bear)
Ozzy
Lolli
Bradley
Madonna
Ganrls
Gilbert
Sam
Tom
Britney and loads more

However the bear only has one name and there can only be one winner.

The winner of the bear was Connor Murray from Saughton Mains in Edinburgh.

Connor correctly guessed that our bear was called FREDDIE. Freddie was named after Freddie Mercury from Queen.

Freddie will be handed over to Connor in the Radio Lollipop Studio shortly – Connor is even free to rename him if he wants to!

The picture above is Freddie at our Roadshow in Danderhall. As you can see he’s quite big so hopefully Connor has a big bed room!
