Radio lollipop supports 5ks for kids

For many years Radio Lollipop has supported the Mater Children’s Hospital 5Ks for Kids charity fundraising walk.

This year was no exception with Radio Lollipop Mater and Logan Chairperson Jennifer Grant, Treasurer Anne Schmiede and volunteers Rose Kehoe, Sana Khan, Sandra Ursino, Rachel Neden and their partners and friends woke early on a Sunday morning and braved the very cool (well cool for Brisbane anyway) temperatures to blow up thousands of helium balloons on behalf of the Mater Foundation and give them out to the children and their families.

As usual Miss Lollipop (Aka Rachel Neden) was a huge hit with the children posing for many photo’s not only with children, but, with tourists on holidays in Brisbane. Batman and Robin from Movie World were also at the event and persuaded Miss Lollipop to have her photo taken with them too, check out the photo.

The sea of brightly coloured balloons given out by Miss Lollipop and all the Radio Lollipop volunteers was a spectacular sight along the 5 km Brisbane river walk.

Radio lollipop meal tray and activity mats

One of the many new initiatives from Radio Lollipop Australia is the introduction of Radio Lollipop meal tray and activity mats. With generous support from the catering department at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, the meal tray and activity mats are used on the evening meal trays every night throughout the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane in place of the plain white paper mats.

Radio Lollipop locations throughout Australia who are unable to use the meal tray mats on the meal trays will soon be using them as activity sheets to leave with the children after they have finished participating in the Radio Lollipop program. The Radio Lollipop meal tray and activity sheets were designed specifically for Radio Lollipop by Graphic Designer Joanne Weymouth, daughter-in-law of Radio Lollipop Mater volunteer Pamela Weymouth.

The Radio Lollipop meal tray mats and activity sheets consistent of word game, maze, find a word, sudoku, O’s and X’s and a spot the difference. The mats have been a huge hit with the children and Joanne took time out recently to visit Radio Lollipop Mater and see the meal tray mats in action. Joanne is pictured here with patient Kai and his sister Claire and Radio Lollipop volunteer Pamela Weymouth.
