balloon kings blow up a storm at radio lollipop gold coast

Radio Lollipop Gold Coast were lucky to have the very talented Balloon Kings, Kane and Canice, visit on the 26th of February to share their highly tuned balloon skills with the children. Balloon King Kane fascinated the children with his amazing balloon making talents, turning them into dinosaurs, alien octopuses, fairy wings, buccaneer swords and anything else the children could imagine. Very cleverly, he would twist and turn the balloons until we all thought they would pop, but then a balloon animal would appear before our very eyes!

Walking through the wards, Kane had the children following him like the Pied Piper. Though instead his pipe were his balloons and his mesmerising music was his ability to bring joy, smiles and merriment to one and all. Who ever knew balloon making could be so much fun? Kane and Canice also spent some time bedside with some of the children who were unable to make it down to the playroom, it was great to see their smiles and know that no one missed out.

A massive thank you to both Kane and Canice for organising this fantastic visit for the children. Rumour has it that the Balloon Kings will be a regular visitor for Radio Lollipop over the coming year, so
lookout for Kane and the balloon gang on the Gold Coast!

Mr happy returns to radio lollipop mater

Mr Happy the Clown is Radio Lollipop’s very first special guest for 2009. Mr Happy has been putting smiles on little faces at the Mater Children’s Hospital on behalf of Radio Lollipop for over 15 years.

Mr Happy’s visit always bring lots of laughter to the wards. The first visit for this year was no exception, he had the children in awe of his magic and some of the volunteers who have been trying to work out Mr Happy’s magic tricks are still waiting to find the answer.

Radio Lollipop volunteer Shirley Murray wore her happy pants as she escorted Mr Happy around the wards to visit the children. Radio Lollipop Australia Director Jeanette Shorto was in town for a visit and was happy to pose for a photo with Mr Happy and a couple of the Thrilling Thursday volunteers.

Our sincere thanks to Mr Happy for coming in and we look forward to another visit real soon.

There was a lot of audience interaction, with Sam bringing some children on stage to roars of laughter from the audience.
