Gold coast twilight soirée great success

On the 8th of May, Radio Lollipop Gold Coast hosted a Twilight Soirée to help raise much needed funds for Radio Lollipop at the Gold Coast Hospital.

The event was attended by over 130 people and together the attendees and other generous supporters raised over $16,000! The venue, food, drinks, raffle and auction were all donated – with 100% of the funds raised going directly to Gold Coast children. Fun was had by all on the night, with the Silent Auction and Raffle dishing out some fabulous prizes to guests. We were also lucky enough to have many great Radio Lollipop supporters assist by donating the invitations (designed and printed), catering, wine, champagne and beer, the magnificent venue and of course, their time.

A special thanks to the organising team – this the first time Radio Lollipop has held such an event on the Gold Coast and it was extremely well received and supported by the local community. The money raised will go a long way when purchasing new arts and crafts and studio equipment at Radio Lollipop Gold Coast.

The brisbane lions mascot bernie returns for a visit at the mater children’s hospital!

The Terrific Tuesday Team was lucky enough to have another visit from the Brisbane Lions mascot, Bernie at the Mater Children’s Hospital!

Bernie and the volunteers from the Tuesday team were up on the wards surprising the children and some nurses with posters and stickers of the entire Brisbane Lions team! A few of the children challenged Bernie to an intense game of basketball! They thought Bernie should stick to Australian Football!

Bernie let us all know the inside tricks of AFL on the radio and announced that his favourite song to play before a big game was Poker Face by Lady GaGa!

A big thanks to the Terrific Tuesday team for such an exciting night for all of the children and volunteers and also Bernie for taking time out of the season to come and visit us all!

Check out Pete, Lauren and Ali with Bernie.

Titans spread cheer at radio lollipop

The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans have helped spread some much needed cheer among sick children at Radio Lollipop at the Gold Coast Hospital last week.

A large group of Titans NRL squad members, headed by Ken Stephen Medal winner Preston Campbell, visited Radio Lollipop to try and help put some smiles on the faces of the sick children at the hospital. The group signed autographs, posed for photos, chatted with the kids and conducted a range of activities including hand painting and colouring in.

Campbell even chipped in with some indigenous art while hooker Nathan Friend showed he too was not out of place with a paintbrush in hand! The team members brought some huge smiles to some of their youngest fans (not too mention their parents!), with many excited children overjoyed to see their biggest fans up close and personal.

Titans duo Brett Delaney and Daniel Conn took over the airwaves for a period, answering some questions from the kids on Radio Lollipop.

The Titans Community Foundation also donated a signed jersey which will be auctioned at a fundraising evening tonight. Organisers are hoping it will help raise $2000 for Radio Lollipop.

“It’s good to be able to give up some of our own time to come and talk to the kids,’’ said Campbell .

“Some of the kids aren’t feeling the best at the moment, so it’s nice to be able to sit down and have a chat with them and their families and hopefully bring a smile to their faces.’’

The Titans will visit Radio Lollipop again later in the season as part of the club’s commitment to making a difference in the community, we can’t wait to see them back on around the wards!

Top gun team visits the kids at the mater children’s hospital

Friday night the wards were roaring with a visit from some of the Royal Australian Air Force’s F111 crew – Vlad, Jake and Adele.

They brought along a show-bag as a keepsake for the children and this included caps, waterbottles, photos and posters of the aircraft and firefighters within the Royal Australian Air Force. These pictures resulted in many WOW’s and wide eyes as the children and parents alike asked many questions of our pilots.

Vlad also brought in his pilots helmet which intrigued many of the children – although the mask and eye shield did become a little too much for some. There were many photos taken which will be sent out as a lasting memory of this special visit at the hospital.

The next time we see the F111’s travelling at 2000km/hour performing the infamous dump and burn we will be reminded of this special visit and the keepsakes so kindly given to the children by the RAAF.

Our thanks go to Vlad, Jake and Adele for creating such a WOW night for the kids and families and our Funky Friday Team.

Check out our Funky Friday team with Adelle, Jake and Vlad.
