Radio lollipop bristol 25th birthday celebrations – children’s party & events

Radio Lollipop Bristol is celebrating its 25th birthday on the Tuesday the 29th September and holding events for the children and their families in hospital throughout the week. We want to celebrate the fantastic 25 years we have already had within the hospital and we look forward to many more!

TUESDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER:

6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. We are having a party for the children in the play centre. We have booked Jack Stephens, a magician whose fun show features magic, puppets and singing along with the guitar as well as the facepainting group ‘Cats Whiskers’ to come into the hospital.

We are also going to have party games like pass the parcel, a lucky dip and competitions. There will also be activities to take out on the wards for the children who cannot come to the play centre.

WEDNESDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER:

6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p..m.

We will be visiting the wards giving out presents to the children (like we do at Easter and Christmas).

We also have a 10 week photo project starting on this day which has been organised jointly between ourselves and Ruth Jacobs, Arts Co-ordinator, at the Hospital. The aim of the project is to design new posters promoting Radio Lollipop and our services to put up around the Hospital. All children are welcome to enter!

MONDAY, THURSDAY AND SATURDAY SESSIONS:

We have made up craft packs for these sessions with the theme of “Festivals and Celebrations” for the children to create arty things with!

Its going to be a great week, photos to follow soon!

Mckenzie gives a star performance

Last night the Wacky Wednesday Team had a Rock star theme with their own concert from up and coming Country / Pop Singer Mckenzie Comer. Mckenzie is 13 years old and resides in Queensland, Australia on the Gold Coast.

We were treated to a live concert in the studio with Mckenzie singing us songs from the recent Hannah Montana movie, Deltra Goodrem and a special Norah Jones treat as a request from one of our volunteers. The studio was full of children and there was plenty of dancing done to Mckenzie’s tunes – even the wheelchairs were no hindrance to getting in the rhythm.

Mckenzie has previously visited our Radio Lollipop Station on the Gold Coast and we love having her as one of our regular special guests to Radio Lollipop. If you would like to see some clips of Mckenzie check out her myspace site http://www.myspace.com/mckenziecomer.

Many thanks to Mckenzie and Rob for arranging this special visit and best wishes for all your future music and acting adventures. We hope to see you back at Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital very soon.

Flying high at the mater children’s hospital

The Funky Friday team were flying high last Friday when the Royal Australian Air Force pilots and navigators paid them a visit and brought with them Air Force merchandise and pictures for the children. We wonder how many of these keepsakes will see the show and tell circuit at home and school in coming weeks!

Questions were asked about the popular Dump and Burn seen at the recent Brisbane Riverfire event and the fact that this was the last time the F-111’s would be making an appearance.

Maybe we inspired some future Royal Australian Air Force members but overall there were lots of smiles from children and parents alike after their special visit.

Our Thanks go to FLGOFF Adele Merriman, FLGOFF Paul Moylan, FLGOFF Jasper McCaldin, FLTLT Matthew Stade, FLTLT Vladislav BISMARCK of 6 Squadron for this visit.

We look forward to a return visit soon.
