Texas Childrens Hospital- Houston, Texas recently celebrated a decade of the healing power of play. On October 5th volunteers marked 10 years of providing smiles and laughter to children at a time when they need it most by hosting a birthday party celebration! Not only were we decorating birthday hats but friendly clowns, face painting and special guests were all around. The biggest crowd pleaser was an appearance from Toro of the Houston Texans (NFL)- when not playing with the kiddos you would find Toro entertaining the big kids- the volunteers had a blast as well. Looking back at photos and remembering the 1st birthday with Destinys Child and other fun guests in the tiny studio. Ahhh the memories. Kaptain Kurt kicked off the evening just has he did 10 years ago, what a blast from the past! We celebrated with three volunteers that have been with Radio Lollipop all 10 years, Kaptain Kurt, Dingy Debbie and Lollipop Loranda. Party guests had fun trying to guess volunteers at age 10. The Downtown Aquarium was on hand playing spin the question wheel and delivering prizes! There was so much to do the children, families and volunteers were hoping the day would never end!

Racq careflight rescue fly into the gold coast
The Childrens Ward at the Gold Coast Hospital was lucky enough to be visited by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue crew on Tuesday the 13th of October.
Pilot David Bashir and Air Crewmen Matt O’Rourke, Luke Pagano and Ryan Purchase dropped in during the evening to spend some time with the children and help to brighten up their stay. The crew came in to the ward and chatted to the children, played some games and gave an insight into the life saving job they do within our community.
The guys got stuck into the paint and completed the infamous Radio Lollipop handprints for the hall of fame, and ran a colouring in competition with the children. The RACQ CareFlight crew gave out prizes and the popular CareFlight teddy bears to the children, putting some huge smiles on the little faces!
Every year RACQ CareFlight Rescues iconic blue and yellow choppers help more than 700 sick or injured patients. Each RACQ CareFlight mission costs in excess of $10,000. Incredibly, this service is provided at no direct cost to patients. After nearly three decades, RACQ CareFlights biggest supporters are still the communities of southern QLD which contribute almost half of the services funding.
Thanks for stopping by guys, you made our night!
Volunteers make a difference
John, aged 6, quite enjoyed his stay in Ninewells Hospital — especially when he had all the attention of the Radio Lollipop Volunteers.
This mask Stuart helped John make fitted quite nicely around his oxygen mask.
