Radio lollipop edinburgh benefits from clydesdale bank £1 note!

Radio Lollipop Edinburgh has received £1500 of funds from Clydesdale Bank. Volunteer Elaine Craig is an employee of the bank and gave a presentation to her colleagues about the work of the charity in order to secure part of the cash raised during the auction of rare banknotes.

A Scottish £1 banknote from 1836, sold for a world record price of £9,000. The auction also included collectable notes from a series of new World Heritage designs as well as historic notes and raised £112,830.

The funds are being used to help over 70 charities including Radio Lollipop.

Radio Lollipop Edinburgh would like to thank Elaine and Clydesdale Bank for their fantastic support.

Norman park state school visit radio lollipop mater

Last night six students from the Norman Park State School along with Chaplain Amy Fitzgerald came into the Radio Lollipop studio at the Mater Children’s Hospital to check out the studio and see how their school project has made a difference to sick children in hospital.

Last semester 20 students from Grade 4 – 7 took on a project of designing and creating craft examples to go into the 30 different nightly theme boxes used by the volunteers at the Mater Children’s Hospital.

In addition they also created activity books for children aged under 8 years and a different activity book for children aged over 8 years which is also available for the volunteers to leave with the children at the end of the night.

The theme last night was ‘Summer’ and the student and volunteers dressed up in the theme, check them out wearing their summer sunglasses. All the children had an opportunity to help compare the Summer radio show last night.

Brisbane roar rocks with radio lollipop brisbane

It was a huge week this week with the Brisbane Roar Mascot “Roary” and players Michael Zullo and Mitch Nichols coming into the Radio Lollipop studio for an on-air interview and then a visit to the wards.

It was a quiet night on the wards (this is good, because this means less sick children in hospital) but we still managed to make lots of noise and have loads of fun with Roary and the boys signing autographs and having photo’s taken with the kids.

Some of the very lucky families also received free passes to see the next Brisbane Roar home game against the Wellington Phoenix on Sunday night.

On Sunday night Radio Lollipop also held a fundraiser at the Brisbane Roar game making and selling Orange and Maroon Brisbane Roar balloon swords. Over $630 was raised in just over 90 minutes.

A huge thank you to the Brisbane Roar for their ongoing support of Radio Lollipop and to the volunteers who made this fundraiser a success.

Check out our photo of some of our Terrific Tuesday night volunteers (L-R) Paul, Kate, Roary, Pete and Ali.

Newcastle phone line damaged

Apologies for writing this as if it were an exciting piece of Radio Lollipop news but please can all potential volunteers be aware that the studio phone line for Radio Lollipop Newcastle has been damaged and is currently under repair.

Whilst in the process of building the new children’s hospital, engineers have demolished certain sections of our current hospital buildings, and with them, the BT phone lines for many of the hospital departments.

We would kindly ask that, until further notice, could you please send any volunteering enquiries or communications via E-mail to

newcastle@radiolollipop.org

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank any potential volunteers for your understanding at this time.
