Bunnings sausage sizzle a huge start to the fundraising year on the gold coast.

Last Saturday we started our fund-raising for the year off with a bang, with the first of many Radio Lollipop sausage sizzles at Bunnings in Ashmore on the Gold Coast. What a turnout! After a day of laughs and spruiking we managed to raise just over $1500 for Radio Lollipop Gold Coast. Not only did we have great success with our fund-raising, we massively increased our awareness in the community, everyone wanted to know who we were and what we are all about.

A huge thank you to volunteers Katrina and Gary for finding the generosity of several supporters who donated practically all of the supplies for the day. We had delicious gourmet sausages, caramelized onions and icy cold drinks; we could hardly keep anyone away!

A special mention to Jess and Dougie who were there from start to finish, giving us lots of laughs with their hilarious spruiking techniques.
All in all it truly was a fantastic day, with the support of all our wonderful volunteers and their family and friends who made it possible. A big pat on the back to you all!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to our very friends at Bunning’s, your support is amazing, we can’t wait for our next cook up in mid June!

The fabulous (not kath n kim) turned up at the gold coast radio lollipop studio.

Once again the Radio Lollipop Gold Coast studio was roaring with laughter, fun and merriment to the comedy pair of Not Kath N Kim in the studio. The ladies turned the studio upside down with their jokes, songs and general misbehaviour and mischief making. The children and parents were up dancing and being silly in front of a packed audience of giggling children, volunteers and nursing staff.

Not Kath n Kim are a multi-talented double act of various characters to their portfolio and have enthusiastically wanted to come in to Radio Lollipop to cheer up the children in hospital. They very generously brought with them six big bags of toys, gifts and items for each and every child.

On not wanting to miss any children out, in their generosity the pair of very funny ladies went on a laugh-about throughout the wards leaving havoc and mayhem in their wake and had us all in fits of laughter.

The children where enthralled throughout the session and we had trouble kicking Not Kath n Kim out at the end of their extended stay, nearly 3 hours. Everyone loved them and we don’t think any children got to bed early this night. Come back soon girls, we love you.

Jeff harper visits radio lollipop gold coast

Jeff Harper with his multi-musical talents, brought his accordion in for the children at Radio Lollipop Gold Coast.

Jeff has played for a number of bush bands throughout Australia and he showed off his unique style for the children. Jeff had the kids toe tapping in their seats. The children loved every minute of Jeff’s performance, not letting him stop even for a glass of water.

Jeff is yet another talent from Volunteering Gold Coast. The Entertainment Troupe asked Jeff if he would like to come along to show off his musical skills for the children here at Radio Lollipop and he did it brilliantly.

Jeff is also an accomplished song writer and rumour has it that for his next visit, Jeff might write some special songs for the children.

Thanks heaps from all the Volunteers, Nursing Staff and of course the Children. We can’t wait for your return Jeff.

The paper bag kid – premier mater children’s hospital

The Wacky Wednesday team got out the red carpet as they hosted the premier performance of The Paper Bag Kid. This show was written and directed by a group of drama students that form exp performance collection group (http://www.expperformance.webs.com/).

The Paper Bag Kid started sitting in his lounge room and then went on an adventure to meet his favourite super hero Mr Fantastic. Along the way there were choices as to which way the Paper Bag Kid went and through the applause in the studio the audience got to make these choices – similar to the Choose Your Own Adventure books.

This was well received by the children and lots of noise made to help direct the Paper Bag Kid on his journey. The Paper Bag Kid will be performed again in our studio later this month and might take a different path if the audience makes different choices.

Our thanks go to Renee Hood for organising this event and to the performers Rory, Heather, Shailee, Moneth, Lauren, Tanya and Zac. We wish you all the best in the completion of your studies and performances with the Exp Performance Collection.
