Cartoons for kids at radio lollipop edinburgh

Representatives from DC Thomson & Co Ltd; creators of cartoons and comics such as Bananaman, the Beano and Bunty, visited Radio Lollipop Edinburgh last week.

Gordon Tait and Morris Heggie, from the Dundee based publishing company came along to be interviewed by presenter Suzi Cunningham live on air. One patient popped in to the studio and immediately recognised “the dog from Dennis” that Gordon had quickly sketched for her.

Gordon then went around the wards to visit some of the children and young people. The patients were delighted to watch him draw the famous images of Bananaman, Dennis the Menace and Gnasher. This inspired Kyle (aged 10) and Samuel (aged 11) on ward 3, who both entered the ‘Design a Superhero’ competition.

It was Shannon on Ward 2 that our special guests selected as the winner of the competition. Shannon won lots of DC Thomson goodies, including books and DVDs. Luckily there were enough prizes, kindly donated by DC Thomson, to go round every child that entered.

Radio Lollipop would like to sincerely thank Gordon and Morris for giving up their time and donating so many wonderful prizes.

Rats raise riches for radio lollipop

Staff from Sir Robert McAlpine tested themselves to the limits on an urban adventure challenge, raising 4,000 for Radio Lollipop in the process.

The 12 members of staff made up four of the 230 teams who took part in the 9 to 5 London Rat Race in September. The event kicked off with a 5km running race through London’s financial district, followed by a gruelling 60km bike ride.

During the day the teams took on a host of challenges including a football assault course, abseiling down the Honourable Artillery Company building and a 3D navigation exercise below deck on HMS Belfast. The final event, at Tower Bridge, was an obstacle course which had to be completed whilst carrying a pitcher of water.

An enjoyable and exhausting day was had by all and plans are currently being made to repeat the challenge in 2010!

On Saturday the 10th April 2010 Bristol Radio Lollipop volunteers were very kindly allowed to shake buckets at the Bristol City v Swansea game.
It was a very successful event and thanks to all who attended to help out, the club for letting us be there and all the generous footy fans, we raised a fan-tastic £777.05!
