Magician bert lends a hand

Bert Lyster our very own Special Guest Magician and member of the Burleigh Masonic Bowls Club, came in especially to hand over the Clubs donation of $800.00 to Radio Lollipop Gold Coast.

Bert had such a fantastic time with the children by entertaining them with his fantastic skills as a magician. Since then, Bert went back to his bowls club and spread the word to his fellow members who quickly decided to make Radio Lollipop one of their special charities, worthy of the generous funds raised by the club each year.

A big thank you goes out to all at the club and especially to Bert Lyster who gave so many children, siblings and parents so much joy, laughter, fun and entertainment with his wonderful magic.

We all can’t wait for Bert to come back soon and enthral the children once again.

Radio lollipop supports st elizabeth’s school fete

This year Radio Lollipop volunteers supported the St Elizabeth’s School Fete. The fete was in need of face painters and former Radio Lollipop Volunteer and long time supporter of Radio Lollipop Narelle Morris asked if Radio Lollipop could help out.

The volunteers came to the call and were kept extremely busy, sometimes with queue’s of children waiting patiently to have their faces painted. The children absolutely loved the face painting and you could see lots our handy work around the fete in the form of puppy dogs, pussy cats, spiders and butterfly’s.

One young girl came to the stand, she didn’t want her face painted but she came up to say hello. She had recently been in hospital for 4 weeks at the Mater Children’s Hospital and she absolutely loved Radio Lollipop. She said she loved making the craft and particularly liked visiting the studio and helping compare the show.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers and their friends who helped out on the day.

Lions club of girradoola helps funding for lollipop!

MEMBERS of the Lions Club of Girradoola (Inc) in Perth’s northern suburbs have helped raise $2,500 for Radio Lollipop (WA).

Earlier this month, the Club visited the studio at Princess Margaret Hospital and spent time visiting children on the wards and requesting songs for the daily radio show.

Lions Club of Girradoola comprises members living in the suburbs of Girrawheen and Koondoola. The Club aims to assist the disadvantaged within the community by providing financial, cultural, social and moral support.

Lisa Fowler, a past Radio Lollipop Volunteer and Girradoola’s Club Secretary, presented the cheque saying the funds were being donated to assist with providing prizes and play for the children.

14 years of uniform free day success

FOR the 14th consecutive year, bus drivers and staff from Western Australia’s Public Transport Authority and Transperth got behind Uniform Free Day to help raise funds for Radio Lollipop.

The event, held in March each year, raised a total of $73,690.77!!!!

PTA Managing Director Mark Burgess recently presented the cheque at the Radio Lollipop station in Princess Margaret Hospital.

“Transperth is proud to support Radio Lollipop which does a fantastic job of entertaining children in WA hospitals,” he said.

On Uniform Free Day, passengers may be a little surprised to board a bus driven by Superman or Marilyn Monroe. Bus drivers, staff and contractors wear a variety of fun and creative costumes and collect donations from passengers throughout the day.

Radio Lollipop volunteers and PTA staff also manned major train and bus stations around Perth encouraging commuters to donate spare change.

A big shout out from Lollipop must go to the bus contractors, PTA staff and enthusiastic volunteers who were up early to collect money. And again, the generosity of WA public transport users blew us all away!

Funds from the 2010 Uniform Free Day will be used to purchase syringe pumps for PMH and to continue refurbishments of the playroom at Joondalup Hospital.
