Radio lollipop celebrates world book day

Radio Lollipop Edinburgh celebrated World Book Day yesterday with live book readings from some of the best loved children’s books, read by two volunteer bedtime readers.

Hanna Nowers and Katie Hibbins visit children at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh to read them bedtime stories. They joined the Thrilling Thursday team to read live on air to all of the children at once. Hanna and Katie read from ‘The Best Loved Bear’ by Diana Noonan and Elizabeth Fuller, ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C.S Lewis and ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ by J.K Rowling. The three books were all chosen by children in the hospital who also had lots of fun completing competition sheets and activities about books.

Radio Lollipop would like to thank Denise Claxton, Voluntary Services Manager, for organising the readings and Hanna and Katie for reading so beautifully on Radio Lollipop.

Hello kitty visit radio lollipop bristol!

Sanrio’s tour of the Radio Lollipops in the UK arrived at Radio Lollipop Bristol last Saturday, 26th February between 1pm and 4pm. They delivered gift bags for our volunteers to give out to the children and brought their Hello Kitty mascot, who was in the Radio Lollipop Studio to help out with a special Hello Kitty radio show.

Our Hello Kitty themed “party” with Hello Kitty themed arts and crafts for the children who are able to come into the playroom was a big hit! We also handed out the Hello Kitty presents to those children who were not able to leave the wards. Kate Harris, Chairperson of Bristol’s Radio Lollipop says “We are really grateful for their support and know the children, families (and volunteers!) really enjoyed their visit! We now have a stock of shoes, t-shirts, socks, pjs, dressing gowns, puzzles, games etc, you name it, we’ve probably got it with Hello Kitty on it! Amazing!”
