Newcastle finally move house.

After a long wait and much hard work, the Newcastle team began to feel fully settled into their new home at the Great North Children’s Hospital today.

For those who are not aware, the team have now moved from the old Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary building into a brand new state-of-the-art children’s hospital on the same site.

“With our new decorative portholes in place, storage fitted and games, crafts and prizes moved in, we are almost ready to operate a full service.” said Helen Hudspith, volunteer co-ordinator.

“Our radio kit has been purchased and is in storage at the moment. Once the electrical wiring is ready, it’s good to go” said Derek Overton, chief engineer and chair.

Helen went on to say “We are so excited about the new premises. Not only is it an amazing new environment for our local sick kids to enjoy, but it gives our volunteers a huge boost too. It’s great to feel like we are making progress. We have known about it for a long time and it has been a long wait but we are so proud to be settling in at last”.

Bieber fever – wacky wednesday team mater hospital brisbane 6 april 2011

Bieber fever was raging at the Mater Children’s Hospital on Wednesday night April 6th. But a dose of antibiotics was not the right medicine to quell the fever this time.

Paramount Pictures ensured the fever pitch rose even more when the Rockin’ Redhead announced there were several family passes for the new Justin Bieber movie, Never Say Never to give away during the show! There were also plenty of Justin Bieber posters to go around to everyone.

The studio phone started ringing off the charts with many of the tween audience phoning into the studio to answer the specially themed Justin Bieber competition questions. Some Justin Bieber fans also came into the studio to announce and sing their favourite Bieber songs on air. The Rockin’ Redhead had them grooving on the airwaves while the music pumped out!

Well done to the Wacky Wednesday team at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane who all worked hard to make this a great fun night for the kids. The lucky team at Logan will repeat the Justin Bieber fever program this weekend. Thanks again Paramount ….you rock!!

Commuters get on board!

On Wednesday 23rd March, bus drivers around Perth had lots fun dressing up to encourage commuters donate with volunteers located at bus depots and train stations in the metro area.

Radio Lollipop WA’s main fundraising event, Uniform Free Day, proved to be a great success once again for it’s 15th consecutive year.

We had an increase in number of businesses that got involved this year, and as part of the UFD celebrations, the Public Transport Authority held a staff quiz night in our honour on Friday 1/4/11 raising just over $400 to add to this year’s tally.

As money continues to flow in from the depots, counting will continue over the coming months, with the final amount raised known by the end of June.

A big thank you to Transperth for all their support!
