Ms penelope wensley ac, governor of queensland, visits radio lollipop at the mater children’s hospital

Her Excellency, Ms Penelope Wensley AC, visited the Mater Children’s Hospital in South Brisbane recently. The Governor was greeted by the Chairman of Radio Lollipop International, Mr Bruce Uhlhorn, Director of Radio Lollipop Australia, Ms Sandra Ursino and Radio Lollipop Mater Chairman Melissa Dixon.

The Governor was welcomed to the Radio Lollipop Studio and Playroom by CEO, Mater Health Services, Dr John O’Donnell and Director of Nursing, Mater Children’s Hospital, Ms Cathy Keyte. The Governor then participated in the regular Radio Lollipop radio show. The Governor was interviewed on air by Radio Lollipop volunteer and DJ, “Major Nerdburger” (Aka) Ms Kate Munro and Radio Assistant, “Rockin Red Head”, (Aka) Ms Hayley McKenzie. The interview ended with a request from the Governor “We are the Champions” as she felt that all the children and the Radio Lollipop volunteers were Champions.

Following the interview, the Governor also visited a number of the hospital wards where she met lots of children and their families.

The Governor was delighted to have received a brooch made by one of the patients and a crown coloured in by another patient.

We would like to thank The Governor for taking the time out of her very busy schedule to visit Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital in the lead up to our 21st birthday. Thanks also to Acting Inspector Jonathan Lavin for co-ordinating the visit.

Real good, feel good time

Radio Lollipop in Glasgow welcomed a Real professional to their studio on Wednesday night.

Real Radio Scotland’s Paul Harper took over from Rabbiting Raymond on Wacky Wednesday to spread the Real Good, Feel Good Factor to the children of Yorkhill and Ninewells. He raided the Real Radio music library and gave away albums from The Saturdays, JLS and even Jedward. With bad doctors and nurses jokes, he was even able to keep up the high standard set by Rabbiting Raymond.

In fact, Paul had so much fun, he’s now considering becoming a full Radio Lollipop volunteer!

We look forward to welcoming Paul and the rest of the Real Radio gang back to Yorkhill in the New Year!
