Radio lollipop bristol celebrates 28 years of fun and laughter

On 29th September Radio Lollipop Bristol celebrated 28 years of providing fun and entertainment to the children at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

The theme this year was all things royal and we had activities like making jewelled crowns and masks and design a royal birthday cake.

DJ Stom and DJ Geminem did a special Birthday show with a special guest appearance from Ollie Garland who took part in the competition “Who can sing Happy Birthday Radio Lollipop the fastest”. We also had “Guess how many peas the princess has”.

Hobble also joined in with the festivities and a team of our volunteers went out on to the wards to give out Kermit backpacks to all the children.

A fun day was had by all.

Radio lollipop offers access all areas at hospital open day

Families enjoyed an access all areas pass at Radio Lollipop on Saturday 29 September when we threw open our studio doors to the general public as part of this year’s open day at Southampton General Hospital.

The studio was buzzing from start to finish and has never looked so full.

Lions, tigers and bears were let loose form the Lollipop studio as the kids took part in our animal masks craft activity,

While visitors of all ages had the unique opportunity to see a proper working radio studio in action, with the chance to play their favourite track, take to the mic and chat to our listeners live on air!

Fun in the park with radio lollipop!

The Birmingham Radio Lollipop volunteer team recently enjoyed a fun day at Tudor Grange Park, to help raise awareness of our fantastic charity. We were one of many stalls on the day, situated next to the main stage. There was a clown, dogshow, martial arts, lots of dance acts, singing, hot food and cold food and Radio Lollipop also raised much needed funds with a ‘Pick A Ticket’ stall. The team had a lot of fun on the day and some of the new members of the team were able to help with hosting and interviewing the acts, which will stand them in good stead for future events (watch out for these in 2012!). The host, Mark Daniels said ‘it was great to see Radio Lollipop involved, your guys did really well and I would like to see you guys hosting your own events in the near future’. Thanks for your support Mark and thanks to everybody who donated and supported us also on the day.

Ollie’s our boy lollipop

Singer Ollie Garland, 17 made some new fans when he visited poorly yougsters at Southampton General Hospital as part of his Lollipop wide tour.

Dubbed Britain’s answer to Justin Bieber, Ollie sang his new single Dry Your Eyes which is raising money for Radio Lollipop as well as treating his audience to several well known covers and a special encore for the nurses who narrowly missed seeing the star perform.

The teenage singing sensation, who has performed with Ed Sheeran, was inspired to release the single after seeing his cousin pay numerous visits to hospital while they were growing up. He said: “I felt I wanted to do something in return.”

Martin Day, chairman of Radio Lollipop Southampton added: “We are delighted to have such a talented young artist coming to see us.”
