Paint the Town Red raises $12,345 for Radio Lollipop NZ

Paint the Town Red is Radio Lollipop New Zealand’s annual fundraising period, and what a great year it was! It was really cool to see so many volunteers participating in all sorts of fundraising activities. It was the first year we’d held sausage sizzles and a pub quiz, and we continued to hold bake sales and sell hundreds of Radio Lollipop pens to friends, family and colleagues.

The annual Paint the Town Red day was magnificent! The kids had an awesome time with the Shortland Street and Sticky TV stars, took whacky photos in the photo booth, got their faces painted and did all sorts of crafty activities.

After all the hard work, we raised a whopping $12,345. What a fantastic result! 2013 is going to be another great year with loads of exciting things set to happen throughout the year. We can’t wait!Sausage sizzle

Kevin Rudd gets rock star welcome

The 26th Prime Minister of Australia received a rock star welcome from the children and our team of excited volunteers when he visited Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

Mr Rudd visited some of children on the wards and even brought a gift for a child by the name of Tom who happened to be celebrating his 10th birthday in hospital that day. It was then over to the playroom to craft up a storm with the kids, followed by a very serious radio interview with Penelope Passport where he announced to all the children that his favourite flavoured ice-cream is chocolate on chocolate!

After a grueling 20 minute interview with Radio Lollipop DJ Penelope Passport, Mr Rudd turned the tables by asking some tricky questions of his own…

They don’t call us the Wacky Wednesday team for nothing 😉

Thank you Kevin Rudd for taking the time to visit the children and families at the Mater Hospital and for lifting the spirits of our wonderful team of volunteers.

Radio Lollipop Brisbane turns 22

Saturday 1 December and there was a party atmosphere in the Radio Lollipop playroom at the Mater Children’s Hospital.

Our fantastic volunteers were there to party with the children and families in hospital along with some special guests including Gold Coast Benji, Ronald McDonald, Ranger Stacey and the Hamburglar.

To celebrate this momentous occasion we made party masks and the children chose all the best party songs to play on the radio.

Congratulations to the volunteers of past and present who have kept the spirit of Radio Lollipop alive in Brisbane for the past 22 years!
