Again I can’t begin to say how proud we are of every single runner – and they have already noted the date for the 2017 GNR 😉 😉 😉 😉

Recruiting Now in Johannesburg

Radio Lollipop is looking for Volunteers to join our team in the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Johannesburg.

Before his passing, Nelson Mandela shared his dream of creating a hospital that offers the children of South Africa state-of-the-art healthcare.  That dream is about to become a reality and Radio Lollipop is proud to be a partner with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.

The Radio Lollipop team of Volunteers makes a positive difference in the lives of children. All Volunteers receive full training and work closely with nursing and medical staff and hospital administrative staff to create fun, friendship and support for each individual patient.

Each Radio Lollipop station has its own team members who run the radio station, involve children in play activities and use the sounds of radio to stimulate the children´s imaginations. If you are over 18 years of age and would enjoy spending two hours a week with kids you can be a Radio Lollipop volunteer.

A stimulating mix of music and participation games is broadcast in children´s wards and rooms. Volunteers work at the bedside, playing games and co-ordinating art projects and contests in which all the sick children have the chance to win prizes.

Through play, a child can find security and stability. Experience has shown that a happy motivated child can respond faster to treatment.

Contact your nearest Radio Lollipop station for more information.

Burleigh Bears Ladies Luncheon for Gold Coast kids

Gold Coast Radio Lollipop has recently been supported by a local rugby league football club, Burleigh Bears, through a fabulous ladies luncheon filled with raffles, live auction and even a hypnotist.

The level of support in the day was positively overwhelming as the guests outbid each other. Radio Lollipop received a grand total of $5,531 from the generosity of the local community.

Junior members of the club were actively involved by selling raffle tickets for loads of prizes, hand-delivering the prizes to the lucky winners. The auction was a special one, catered specifically for the luncheon’s beneficiaries Radio Lollipop, and Sassy Survivors, a young women’s breast cancer support group. Burleigh Bears players auctioned off three pink coloured football jerseys, to be worn at the charity football game on the following weekend by the junior players. Three hand-decorated bras were also auctioned off – one special bra was decorated in a way which represented the children at Gold Coast University Hospital.

Shane St James the hypnotist created lots of buzz and laughter, as members of the audience volunteered to fall under his spell. The brave members performed silly antics, dance moves and adopted strange personas to deliver a wildly entertaining show.

To close off the day, guests were encouraged to battle it out with a sing-and-dance off; the loudest, most boisterous tables each took home a bottle of champagne per person. Needless to say, a huge dance-party ensued as guests hopped up on tabletops, dancing and singing at the top of their lungs. It’s no surprise that there were quite a few winners!

The Gold Coast team extends their deepest thanks to Damian, Nicky, Jodie, and Burleigh Bears Rugby League Football Club for allowing Radio Lollipop to be involved in such a wonderful event!
