Manic monday’s fire-fighter fun!
7 February 2010

As part of Emergency Services Week at Radio Lollipop at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh, the Manic Monday Team enjoyed a visit from Mike Jaffray from Lothian & Borders Fire & Rescue Service Community Safety Department and the Tollcross Fire Station Blue Watch Team on Monday 1st February 2010.

Mike joined Monday Presenter Paul Goldie and the rest of the team in the studio to answer questions on his job and the fire-service in general. He gave some great advice to Radio Lollipop listeners on fire and community safety as well as sharing his experiences and expertise – including rescuing cats from electricity pylons!

Mike also informed us of the great free Home Safety Visits the fire-service offers, which include providing a free smoke alarm if required. To arrange a Home Safety Visit, you can call the fire & rescue service on 0800 169 0320.

The Blue Watch team brought two fire engines to the hospital, giving children (and the Radio Lollipop Volunteers!) the opportunity to sit in the fire engines and even have a go of the flashing lights! They also visited Wards 1 and 4 – delighting both the children and their mums!

The Radio Lollipop team would like to thank Mike and the whole Blue Watch Team for their visit and look forward to having them back to the studio soon.
