Last year, three Radio Lollipop volunteers attended the Toddler Day Out event (TDO), handing out brochures and stickers.  We were the new kids on the block, making progress towards opening a new branch in the newly refurbished “Rangatira” Children’s Ward at Waitakere Hospital.

For the 2013 TDO event, we were asked to be the MCs for the event! It was to be our first attempt at this sort of thing, and what a fantastic day it was. As well as the time spent hosting the event, we were given five time slots during the day to take the stage. The team contacted Sticky TV and Shortland Street and several stars happily joined us. There were also action songs, a “painting with sound” section and our very own guest star Campbell (an ex-patient of Starship), performing covers and original songs he had written. Volunteers were also involved in face painting and an activity table, which did not let up all day.

Overall, the day was a great success; there were over 18,000 visitors to the event, and we gained some priceless exposure.  We have already been asked to help at next year’s event! Thanks to the volunteers that helped make it a fantastic day, especially to our MCs Sam and KK.
