Officeworks supports Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital

This week 5 volunteers from Officeworks in Brisbane joined the Super Saturday team at Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital to provide craft fun and entertainment for the children. The theme was Fathers Day with the children having a variety of craft activities available to do supplied by Officeworks.

Every fortnight Officeworks staff will volunteer their time, provide the craft activities and the resources to support Radio Lollipop volunteers in entertaining the children at the Mater Children’s Hospital and hopefully other hospitals in Queensland and in time around Australia.

Officeworks have an in-house craft entertainment program for children available in each of their stores. Unfortunately, in some stores the program is not used as frequently as Officeworks would like.

Rod Hinton and Aidan Norrie from Officeworks Adelaide Street Brisbane have worked with Radio Lollipop Director Sandra Ursino to develop a program that benefits the children and supports both Radio Lollipop and Officeworks.

Major radio stations unite for Radio Lollipop on 28 June 2013

Major radio stations in Brisbane and the Gold Coast will create history when they join forces for Radio Lollipop on Friday 28 June. This is an important story for all Queensland families!

Imagine just for a moment spending time in hospital. You’ve never been to hospital before, and everything you see and hear feels unfamiliar and a little scary. Doctors and nurses keep coming in and out of the room… a room you have to share with strangers, all at a time when you feel stressed and unwell. Now imagine for a moment this happening to you as a small child…

Our team of Radio Lollipop volunteers support children in hospital with a range of entertainment and activities that brighten their day, but the biggest toy in our toy box is the RADIO. Nothing is more powerful than watching a child smile for the first time all day because they heard their name on the radio, or seeing a child forget their cares as they sing along to their favourite song.

Our Radio Lollipop volunteers share experiences like these with more than 12,000 Queensland kids every year! And now more than ever they need YOUR help!

Eight major radio stations in South East Queensland are rising to the challenge including Brisbane’s 4BC, 4BH, B105, 4MMM, 4KQ, 97.3FM, 106.9 Nova FM, 612 ABC and Gold Coast ABC. So listen out for Radio Lollipop on Friday 28 June and help us raise $250,000 so that Radio Lollipop can relocate to three new Queensland children’s hospitals.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk visits Radio Lollipop Mater Children’s Hospital

The Lord Mayor of Brisbane Graham Quirk and Lady Mayoress Mrs Quirk made a special visit to Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital recently to experience first hand the wonderful work of our Radio Lollipop Volunteers.

The theme for the Radio Lollipop Super Saturday Show was ‘Bugs’ and the Radio Lollipop studio and playroom was buzzing with volunteers and children making fabulous butterfly’s and crazy caterpillars.

15 year old Rheece was co-hosting the show with Radio Lollipop Volunteer Razzle Dazzle who interviewed the Lord Mayor asking all the very tricky questions. We found out the Lord Mayor is a bit of an ice cream fan and his favourite is honeycomb, we also found out that during the week he met Ricky Martin and Queensland’s own Luke Kennedy from The Voice.

The Lord Mayor also spent time making caterpillars with 5 year old Aaligah in the playroom.

Check out the photo of Rheece and Aaligah with the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress and the Super Saturday Team.

Miss Lollipop supports Mater Miracles Fun Run

On Sunday 2 June, Miss Lollipop and volunteers from Radio Lollipop’s Mater Children’s Hospital braved the cool morning to support the 5k’s for Kids Fun Run which turned out to be the Mater Foundation’s biggest single fundraising event ever!

Miss Lollipop met lots of new friends along the way including Dora the Explorer and Diego, the Star Wars Storm Troopers and Superman. But her favourite new friend was one of the smallest, the local surf dog.. the two hit it off straight away as can be seen in this photo!

Volunteers Jet, Andrew, Mel and Orchid were also there to add even more smiles to this event with their special chocolate chip and strawberry flavoured bubbles! Thanks to a nice autumn breeze, the bubbles got carried away high up in the sky as far as the eye could see!
