Drawn2Life’s Batman and Spider-man visit Gold Coast Radio Lollipop

We’ve all seen Batman versus Superman, (let’s be honest for a moment here, no matter what the movie was like, as if Superman isn’t the obvious winner!) but when it comes to the battle between heroes who walk amongst us, the real question is: Who would win, Batman or Spider-man?

Gold Coast Radio Lollipop were recently visited by Drawn2Life, a Brisbane costuming group committed to supporting local charities by dressing up in authentic superhero and villain costumes.

Drawn2Life had planned a Spider-man vs. Batman theme to generate a light-hearted competition. Matthew and Luke dressed up in fantastically realistic costumes, and the heroes visited each child at their hospital bedside. Accompanied by volunteers, the team engaged in a friendly banter to gauge which superhero the child preferred. They had also prepared mask templates of the two heroes for the kids to decorate.

The children’s ward at Gold Coast University Hospital is slightly smaller in comparison to the Radio Lollipop studio at the old Southport Hospital, but that was no trouble for our big heroes.

“The brilliant thing about that is it means that the visits aren’t rushed at all,” says Matthew.

“…we were able to spend genuine time with each and every child that wanted a special visitor.”

At the end of the night, the result was clear: Spider-man was the winner in the eyes of Gold Coast kids! However, Batman, Radio Lollipop can assure you that your special visit to the hospital has left a lasting impression on each and every child that night.

“…sometimes you get to experience something that is just so special and rewarding, and the feeling just blows you away,” said Matthew.

“I cannot wait until our next visit.”

Matthew, Luke, and the team at Drawn2Life, Radio Lollipop cannot wait to welcome you to our studios again.

Gold Coast and Brisbane runners raise over $4000 in the recent marathon

It wasn’t for the glory and it certainly wasn’t to break record time; Gold Coast and Brisbane volunteers joined together to conquer the 5.7km walk in the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, raising funds and awareness for Radio Lollipop along the way.

The team were hard to miss when they hit the tracks donned in colourful tutus, bubble wands and sparkling foil balloons. They certainly made a huge impact; fellow runners photographed selfies with our daring group while onlooking crowds cheered and whistled from the sidelines.

With the volunteers taking to their social media pages, the team of 12 successfully raised a total of $4208.70.

The money will go towards prizes, craft essentials and games to ensure Radio Lollipop continues to deliver the best bedside service to sick children in hospital.

Radio Lollipop Gold Coast wins Grill’d stores’ Local Matters initiative

Radio Lollipop Gold Coast has received amazing support from two Grill’d store locations, at Robina Town Shopping Centre and Harbour Town in Biggera Waters, Gold Coast.

Radio Lollipop was one of the entrants in the Grill’d “Local Matters” initiative, where customers are given a token to nominate the charity they’d like to see receive the top donation of $300 at the end of each month. Second and third place each receive a $100 donation. With the help of the local community, Radio Lollipop Gold Coast were voted into first place at Robina Town Shopping Centre, while placing a close second at the Harbour Town store.

Both Grill’d stores have shown extraordinary generosity, with the Robina location donating boxes of colouring-in pencils to put in Radio Lollipop welcome packs, and Harbour Town offering their help by donating onions for the fundraising Bunning’s BBQs.

Combined with the prize money, the Gold Coast team will now have more to put towards creating a WOW-experience for every child admitted into hospital.
